Wow has the last month been busy! I left for the International Conference on Linguistics and Epistemology at the University of Aberdeen the *day* finals were over, got back and had less than a week to get ready for the FEW.
Both conferences were great. I got to meet my co-author Patrick Rysiew in person for the first time, got to meet the amazingly nice Duncan Pritchard in person finally, had more engaging conversation with Jason Stanley, got to hang with Joe and Brit a bit, saw Rene again, and met Peter Ludlow for the first time which was quite a delight. Martijn did a great job organizing the conference.
It was really fun to be surrounded by people all working on the same problems, which hadn't happened since the first Kline Workshop at Missouri with Kvanvig when we read the Hawthorne MS. I love focused conferences. As a result, I'll be posting some more reflections on the philosophy of language over the next month or so.
Also the FEW was amazing: what a bunch of smart people!! I was worried that my non-technical presentation would be uninteresting or even offensive, but people were very generous and asked great questions and made great suggestions. More than ever I look forward to my role working the borders of traditional and formal epistemology.
